Regular play streets
Southwark launched its play street scheme in April 2014. Why not join the revolution?
Apply at least six weeks prior to your first play street event.
You can hold sessions for a maximum of three hours, once a month – or less frequently if you choose.
All applications must ‘demonstrate support’ from neighbours but no threshhold is specified.
The council delivers signage for each event – temporary traffic signs, barriers and cones required for the road closures – free of charge.
Try before you buy – run a trial play street
Want to run a trial play street? Perhaps on Car Free Day or another day? You can! Find out if a play street is for you and your neighbours before committing to regular sessions by having a one-off event. More details below.
For Car Free Day 2024 the deadline is Sunday 01 September.
For other one-off street events apply at least six weeks prior to your event.
Nothing. Nada. Gratis. Free!!
Consult with your neighbours in writing – this must be delivered to every premises on the street and must give contact details for at least one of the organisers and for the council.
Council provides barriers and road closure signs if available.
By the way…
Councils are liable to change dates, process and contact details. We try hard to keep this page updated but if you notice that something is not right, please let us know!
