Play streets in Merton

Regular play streets

Merton Council has recently introduced a play street policy allowing residents to apply for regular events.

Apply six weeks prior to your first event date. More information on the council website here.

Want to try out a play street?

Merton has been facilitating one-off play streets since 2010. Want to run a trial play street ? Perhaps on Car Free Day or another day? You can! Find out if a play street is for you and your neighbours by having a one-off event. More details below.

Apply at least six weeks before your event.

For Car Free Day 2023,  if your road has already been closed for an event this year the deadline for applications is 5 August. If your road has not yet been closed in 2023, the deadline is 1 September.

Hooray it’s free!

All neighbours in the area directly affected by the road closure to be consulted.

Road closed signs, high-vis jackets, whistles and hazard tape.

Apply for a trial play street using a ‘street party’ application.
