You don’t need a Jubilee…

…to have fun in your own street!

Music to the ears of Royalists and Republicans alike: you don’t have to wait for the next royal occasion before you can transform your street again!

Play streets offer residents a regular opportunity to temporarily restrict traffic in their road, allowing them to transform their streets into spaces for socialising, playing and other creative endeavours.

It is free to apply and available to residents in most boroughs. The process varies, but will involve consulting your neighbours and applying to the council well in advance of the day (at least six weeks ahead in most cases). Check out our Play Street Map to find out how it works in your borough. Or simply  get in touch with us and we can get you started!

Royal occasions have long been seen as an opportunity for people to come together in the streets with their neighbours to share food, drink tea, talk, sing and dance.  AND of course, play.

But while you don’t need a royal occasion, play is a must!  Sign up to our FREE members area to find resources to help you plan and promote your play street. And although children will make their own fun, there are plenty of game ideas too:

This photo shows a street party in Edmonton to mark the coronation of King George IV in 1937, when the Queen herself was just 11 years old. The perfect age to enjoy a play street!
