Play streets in Tower Hamlets

Regular play streets

We are very pleased to welcome Tower Hamlets Council to the play street club! The process at this latest joiner seems pretty simple so there’s nothing to stop you opening your street for play. Details of when why what and how – see below.

No deadlines – apply ‘several’ weeks in advance of your first session.

Up to three hours a time, monthly or weekly.

Consult those living or operating a business on the street you wish to close or on streets that rely on it for access. Submit a record of this along with names and addresses of those who support or (strongly) object to your proposal.

Check with council.

Apply online here.

Want to try out a play street?

Want to run a trial play street? Perhaps on Car Free Day or another day? You can! Find out if a play street is for you and your neighbours by having a one-off event. Find out here how to apply using a street party application.

Apply at least nine weeks before your event.

Consult all affected households and record objections

Nothing – residents need to provide their own barriers and purchase public liability insurance .

There is very little information on how to apply available online – we suggest that you email the council to find out more.

By the way…

Councils are liable to change dates, process and contact details. We try hard to keep this page updated but if you notice that something is not right, please let us know!
