Regular play streets
Lewisham makes it easy for residents to apply for their own play street – it’s free, (relatively) quick and fairly simple. So go for it!
No deadlines, apply 6-8 weeks before your first event
A few hours, regular weekly or monthly intervals.
Evidence is required that local residents have been consulted and given the opportunity to register their objections. A list of objections should be collated and attached to the application form.
The council has a limited number of road closed signs and barriers to loan out but otherwise you will have to hire or make your own. Check with the council.
Try before you buy – run a trial play street
Want to run a trial play street? Perhaps on Car Free Day or another day? You can! Find out if a play street is for you and your neighbours before committing to regular sessions by having a one-off event. More details below.
Apply at least six weeks before your event – 11 August for Car Free Day 2024 (but we are pushing for extending this!) Check council website.
Hooray, it’s free to hold a one-off street party or trial play street in Lewisham!
All neighbours to be informed of time and date
Nothing – residents must provide their own barriers
