Play streets in Islington

Regular play streets

Islington has plenty of play streets but could always do with more!.

There are no longer any deadlines for play street applications in Islington, but you should aim to submit your application at least six weeks in advance of your first session; two months is recommended.

Up to 3 hours per session, during daylight hours only

You must demonstrate ‘strong support’ from affected neighbours in the form of a list of names and signatures.

Council delivers the equipment for each session – temporary traffic signs, barriers and cones required for the road closures – free of charge. Permanent signage is also installed on operating play streets.

Try before you buy – try out a play street

Want to run a trial play street? Perhaps on Car Free Day or another day? You can! Find out if a play street is for you and your neighbours before committing to regular sessions by having a one-off event. More details below.

Apply at least four weeks in advance of your event – but don’t forget you need to inform/consult with your neighbours before you apply.

Hooray, it’s free!
